LOST GRRRL FOUND, THE INDIE MUSICAL AND DIY PUNK PROJECT INSPIRED BY THE 1990s RIOT GRRRL MOVEMENT, RELEASES ITS DEBUT EP— The four-song project, Pupal Phase, released today and we can’t stop listening. Created by New York based creative partners Penelope Gould and Holly Nance alongside director and musician Marina Carlstroem, the project explores friendship, desire, art, and activism through a mix of punk music and theatrical storytelling.
Leading the release is “Time To Grow Up,” a catchy, guitar-driven track about the complicated reality of growing apart. Its playful energy and spirited vocals contrast with the bittersweet subject matter, capturing the frustration and sadness of realizing that a friendship may be changing. Balancing humor with vulnerability, the song reflects the awkwardness of growing up and figuring out where you belong.
Gould and Nance began writing Lost Grrrl Found during their freshman year in New York University’s Dramatic Writing program. Bonding over their shared love of Bikini Kill, zines, and Carrie Brownstein’s memoir Hunger Makes a Modern Girl, the pair developed a 22-song musical rooted in the riot grrrl movement’s approach to art and activism.
With its blend of coming-of-age storytelling and DIY influences, Pupal Phase introduces Lost Grrrl Found with a project that connects the spirit of ’90s punk with the personal experiences that continue to make it resonate.
